AutoRAI 1952: 2CV

De primeur van de RAI in 1952 was Citroëns 2CV, die zich al snel de bijnaam 'lelijke eend' verwierf. Bij de onthulling in Parijs in 1948, was de Franse president Auriol van de auto geschrokken, zo lelijk vond hij het wagentje. Smaak viel de excellentie dus niet te ontzeggen.Op de RAI werd de stand van de AGAM, jarenlang importeur van Mercedes-Benz, geflankeerd door enkele spectaculair gestroomlijnde Hudsons. Ook weer zo'n merk dat het veld heeft moeten ruimen. Daarachter is nog net een statige Jaguar zien, die de stand van Lagerweij mocht delen met de legendes Delage en Delahaye. U raadde het al: ook die Franse topmerken zijn verdwenen.

AutoRAI 1956: DS

Een van de grote primeurs op de tentoonstelling van 1956: de DS, de godin van Citroën. Op de show wordt Fords nieuwe Zephyr onthulden bij de opening wordt Prins Bernhard rondgeleid: zijn belangstelling gaat als steeds uit naar sportieve modellen: de Volvo Super Sports, en de Jaguar XK 140, de opvolger van de fameuze 120. Van de Ford Anglia, die met het negatief staande achterruitje, werd een speciale politieversie ontwikkeld, die we in Nederland echter nooit op straat hebben gezien.De algemeen voorzitter van de RAI, dhr. Eriksson, spreekt het eerst over nieuwbouw en is de initiatiefnemer voor de planning van het huidige RAI-complex aan het Europaplein.

AutoRAI 1963 - Citroën stand

Citroën trok in 1963 de aandacht met een spectaculaire blikvanger: een DS die als een raket verticaal was opgesteld. Ook als publiekstrekker op de stand een Le Mans-winnaar van Panhard, de
CD Sportcoupé. Het merk was technisch vooruitstrevend (aluminium tweecilinder boxermotor, de krachtbron van de Eend was er van afgeleid, en een eveneens aluminium carrosserie), maar niettemin zieltogend en in z'n nadagen onder de hoede van Citroën gesteld.
